Privacy policy

Fillstep fills and signs PDF forms on your iPhone, Android phone or Mac. It is built so that your documents stay on your device unless you choose to send them somewhere.

What Fillstep does with your information

• Documents, answers, signatures and "My details" are read, processed and stored on your device, in Fillstep's private storage. Fillstep has no servers of its own and never uploads them to us.
• Optional account (iPhone and Android): you can sign in with Apple, Google or an email and password. This is never required. The sign-in is handled by Google Firebase Authentication, which keeps your email address, name (if the provider shares it) and an account ID. It is used only to sign you in and to keep Pro on your other devices; your documents, answers and signatures are never linked to it or uploaded. Delete the account at any time in Settings ▸ Fillstep account ▸ Delete account.
• Optional Google Drive backup (iPhone and Android): if you connect Google Drive in Settings ▸ Cloud Storage, Fillstep copies your finished PDFs to your own Google Drive, using access limited to the files Fillstep creates there. The copies go directly from your phone to Google; we never receive them. Disconnect in Cloud Storage; remove the copies in Google Drive.
• Text recognition (reading scanned or photographed forms) runs on your device with Apple's Vision framework (iPhone and Mac) or Google's ML Kit (Android). Nothing is sent to us or used to train models.
• Sharing: a filled PDF leaves your device only when you share, save or print it yourself, to the app or person you choose.
• No analytics, no advertising, no tracking and no crash reporting services are included.

Permissions

On Android, paper scanning uses Google's ML Kit Document Scanner, which runs inside Google Play services with its own camera permission; Fillstep itself does not request the camera.

Fillstep for Mac

• Fillstep for Mac asks for no permissions and has no access to the internet. It can open only the files you choose in an Open dialog, drop on its window or paste, and it saves only where you choose. The file you open is copied into Fillstep; the original is never changed.
• Scanning with your iPhone (Continuity Camera) is done by macOS and your iPhone; the scan arrives on your Mac as a PDF, and Fillstep never uses a camera.
• Photos of your signature are read from the file you choose; Fillstep doesn't ask for your photo library.

Purchases (Fillstep Pro)

Fillstep Pro is optional. Purchases are handled by Apple (App Store) or Google (Google Play) under their own privacy policies; Fillstep never sees your payment details. Whether you own Pro is checked on your device with the store. A purchase on your iPhone also unlocks Pro on your Mac with the same Apple Account. On iPhone and Android, purchase status may be checked through RevenueCat, which receives your store purchase records and an app user ID (your account ID if you are signed in) to confirm Pro; it gets no documents.

Data stored on your device and how to delete it

• Documents you open or scan, your answers (saved as you go), filled PDFs, saved signatures and initials, and "My details".
• Delete "My details" in Settings ▸ My details ▸ Delete my details. Delete saved signatures in the signing screen ▸ Saved. Deleting the app removes everything Fillstep stored (on a Mac, delete Fillstep's data in System Settings ▸ General ▸ Storage, or remove ~/Library/Containers/com.devcrust.fillstep).
• Fillstep's data is excluded from iCloud / computer backups (iPhone), from Time Machine (Mac) and from Google backups (Android).

Children

Fillstep is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect personal data from them.
